RT Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan and Rossiya Segodnya news agency head Dmitri Kiselyov addressed a rally held in support of the detained head of RIA Novosti Ukraine, Kirill Vyshinsky, in Moscow on Friday. Speaking outside of the Ukrainian Embassy, Kiselyov stated that «it is beneficial for the Ukrainian authorities to delay the trial, since the case will collapse in court. The investigation... Еще is not progressing.» Simonyan on her part asked if Kiev wants «Ukrainian journalists to be captured and also thrown into prison on charges related to their activities? Just for you to release Kirill? You want this? You will get this.» Vyshinsky is being held on suspicion of treason, which carries a prison sentence of up to 15 years. Kherson City Court ruled on Wednesday to extend the journalist's custody until December 28. The action was organised on the UN-recognised International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, which is observed annually on November 2.
