Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed that the US decision to withdraw from the INF Treaty “has long been made,” speaking to the press in Moscow on Wednesday.
Putin went on to say that the decision was made “sneakily” since the “US Congress allocated money for R&D” for the creation of intermediate-range and short-range missiles, banned within the treaty, before Washington announced its... Еще intention to withdraw from the INF.
Putin then went on to say the US “started to think whom they could shuffle blame onto. Well, to say ‘Russia is to blame’ is the easiest and the most habitual thing for an ordinary Western person.”
Putin also mentioned that Russia opposes the annulment of the INF Treaty, but will “react accordingly” if it happens.
On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Washington was urging Moscow to return to the INF Treaty within two months. According to him, the United States will suspend its obligations if the Russian Federation does not return to fulfil its commitments in 60 days.
Earlier, the US President Donald Trump said that the United States intends to withdraw from the INF Treaty concluded in 1987, since, according to him, Russia is violating the agreement.
