Russia: US seek to establish 'quasi-state' in Syria — Lavrov

Sergei Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister (Russian): «Firstly, it is accurate, the agreement is temporary. The end of the story will only come about when, in Syria, the authority of the Syrian people is restored and when all of those who are situated on Syrian territory, especially those who are not invited, leave this territory. And this is clear for all. I would not agree with you that Idlib is... Еще the last problematic region in Syria. On Syrian territory there are vast lands east of the Euphrates where absolutely unacceptable things are taking place. The US is trying to use these lands through their Syrian allies — above all, through the Kurds — in order to establish a quasi-state there. But the US are by all means illegally seeking to establish a quasi-state on this territory, trying to do everything there to create conditions for a normal way of living for their subordinates, creating a structure of authority which is an alternative to those legitimate [structures] of the Syrian Arabic Republic and actively assisting in the return of refugees and their settlement there. And this is despite the fact that on the territories held by the legal Syrian government, neither the USA, nor France, nor other Western countries want to create the conditions for the return of refugees — as the West are telling us, until a trustworthy political process starts. What is the question? Why don't we wait for the start of a trustworthy political process on the eastern banks of the Euphrates which are controlled by the USA and their local associates? There can only be one answer: because they want to create a territory which will be a prototype for a new state — maybe again it will be another dangerous game with Kurdistan, with the idea of a Greater Kurdistan. I do not exclude this, because in that region the USA are as a rule trying to keep the situation in a heated condition in order that everybody is on the edge. And in such muddy waters, it is much easier for them to catch the fish they want. Such policies never ended well.» *MULTIPLE SHOTS AT SOURCE* Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the US is seeking to establish a «quasi-state» east of the Euphrates river in Syria, during an interview for RT France, Paris Match and Le Figaro in Moscow on Friday. «On Syrian territory there are vast lands east of the Euphrates where absolutely unacceptable things are taking place.
