Peskov clarified why Russia decided to act without waiting for a final approval from US President Donald Trump. «In this case, the form [the bill takes] after [approval by] the Senate is more important, technically speaking, this form [of the bill] is almost final,” Peskov said. The press secretary added that «in the words of the White House, it was a matter of strengthening [sanctions], so the essence of the matter does not change.» Russia's move follows the approval of the US Senate to impose additional sanctions against the Russian Federation for its alleged interference in the US presidential election.
