Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Russia's «cup of patience has overflowed» and that now Moscow is «restoring parity» with the US, Friday, speaking during a press briefing in Novo-Ogaryovo on Russia's retaliation to the US's recently imposed sanctions.
Russian authorities have stated that the US must cut the number of diplomatic staff in the country to 455 personnel by... Еще September 1, and halt their usage of summer houses in Serebryany Bor and embassy storage facilities on Dorozhnaya Street in Moscow by August 1.
Ryabkov said that Moscow waited for the return of diplomatic property belonging to the Russian Federation for seven months after it had been seized by the Obama administration, but that it was to no avail. He said that this, on top of the US' new «unacceptable conditions», meant «the cup of patience overflowed.»
Ryabkov said that he considered Moscow's measures to be levelling the playing field between Russia and the US.
«We are restoring parity, which for a long time was violated by the Americans», he stated.
Deputy Foreign Minister clarified that measures will come into play on September 1. He explained that the number of US diplomats should not exceed 455, which he said is the figure the Russian Federation currently has in its overseas institutions.
Ryabkov described the bill as a means for Americans to intimidate the world through, «the consequences of not being ready to move in the wake of American policy.»
Moscow's decision comes after Congress passed a bill that imposes new economic sanctions against Russia, targeting mining, defence, and shipping industries among others. US President Donald Trump must first sign off on the bill before it is fully implemented.
