Russia: Ulyukaev to remain under house arrest until 2018

Yes, I lost 14 kilograms, thanks a lot to our judicial system for that!» *JUMP CUT AT SOURCE* The former Russian Economic Development Minister Aleksei Ulyukaev, accused of bribe taking, thanked Russian justice for him loosing 14 kilos in custody after the preliminary hearing that took place on Tuesday in Zamoskvoretsky district court in Moscow. Although, he added, «The investigation itself is on my side, in fact,» as he exited the court. The court prolonged his house arrest sentence until January 27, 2018, and set the date of the first court hearing as August 16, 2017. Ulyukayev was arrested in November 2016 by the officers of the Investigative Committee as he is suspected in of accepting a $2 million bribe (€1,695,740). According to the investigators, he received the money after his ministry had approved a deal regarding Rosneft's takeover of a major regional oil company, Bashneft. As a result, Rosneft received an opportunity to acquire the state's stake in Bashneft.
