Russia: Tretyakov Gallery to protect 'Ivan the Terrible' with reinforced glass

The Tretyakov gallery held a briefing on the attack on Ilya Repin's famous painting 'Ivan the Terrible and His Son' in Moscow on Monday, in light of the vandalism incident that took place on Friday. The painting was damaged by a man who used a metal security post to punch its protective glass and tear the canvas. The police detained the intoxicated suspect soon after arriving to the scene on Friday. Criminal proceedings against the perpetrator, identified as a 37-year-old man from Voronezh, have been started. The painting has been vandalised once before, in 1913, when painter Abram Balashov managed to cut it with a knife in three places.
