Russia: 'They need experience badly' — '66 winner Banks dismisses England's WC chances

SOT, Gordon Banks, former English footballer (English): «Well the last couple of games i've seen them they don't look that terrific. They have been playing some youngsters in there you know which didn't play too bad, but they've not [got] the experience. I think they need experience badly when you're in a tournament like this. You can only wait and see you know and you never know we'll have to... Еще look and see.» SOT, Stan Collymore, RT Journalist (English): «Are you enthusiatic about some of the younger ones coming through — Dele Alli, Harry Kane playing lots of premiership games, Raheem Sterling doing well for Manchester City — that must give you a lot of enthusiasm?» SOT, Gordon Banks, former English footballer (English): «Oh yea oh yea, I think they've got some good young ones definitely. I like (Leicester City Footballer Jamie) Vardy and I think that if he's plays alongside with Kane up the front there then I think that could be a good twosome I really do.» SOT, Stan Collymore, RT Journalist (English): «Goalkeepers is something that is your speciallity — as one of our world class players from (as a World Cup winner in) 1966. Joe Hart, Frazer Forster, Jack Butland — we've got a number of exciting goal keepers for England — who would be your number one for England starting next summer?» SOT, Gordon Banks, former English footballer (English): «I've seen Jack Butland play and I like him I think that he's a very very good goalkeeper and I think that he should get in there in that team. He's had such bad luck with his ankle in that first game for England, he got carried off and then he was practicing for that last game, that friendly (England vs Germany), and then he breaks his finger. That is so bad luck that, really. But I think that he's worth definitely getting played in the next, if he gets a couple of friendlies for the World Cup and if he plays well he should get in there (the team).» Former England player and World Cup 1966 winner Gordon Banks talked down England's chances for the FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 in Moscow on Wednesday, citing a lack of experience as their main problem. «They have been playing some youngsters in there you know which didn't play too bad, but they've not [got] the experience. I think they need experience badly when you're in a tournament like this», Banks said. The subject of England's first choice goalkeeper has been in the spotlight over the past year, and Banks was more than happy to weigh in, as a star of England's World Cup 1966 winning team. «I've seen Jack Butland play and I like him, I think that he's a very, very good goalkeeper and I think that he should get in there in that team», said Banks. The FIFA World Cup Final group stages draw takes place today, December 1 in Moscow.
