Renowned American mixed martial arts fighter Jeff 'The Snowman' Monson recorded a video on Tuesday, in which he thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for granting him Russian citizenship. “I want to say thank you very much to Mr Putin. I wrote him a letter and appealed to him, so I really appreciate that it was signed off and realises that it means very much to me to be Russian,” Monson said... Еще. “Right now, I don’t have any plans to renounce my US citizenship and the reason for this is simple, I have children, I have family in the United States,” the mixed martial arts fighter stated. Monson added, “in the next few years, when I get more into politics, and try to really help people, be in the position, where I can really help people and make it run for the State of Duma, then it’s a necessity to renounce my US citizenship. That’s my plan.” The decree with which Putin granted citizenship to the American fighter was published on the government’s website. Monson's fascination with Russia has been demonstrated in the sportsman’s multiple tattoos, which include an image of a hammer and sickle on the left shin and a red and black star on his chest. In 2014, he applied for the Russian citizenship, later receiving a passport of the self-proclaimed Lugansk People's Republic in 2016. The 47-year-old sportsman is a two-time winner of the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship and the world champion in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Over the course of his career, Monson has fought 88 times, scoring 61 victories and 26 defeats and one draw.
