Russia: Suspect Oleg Sokolov assists investigators in murder probe

Murder suspect and historian Oleg Sokolov was seen leaving his apartment accompanied by police after providing assistance to the investigators in St Petersburg on Friday. Sokolov, wearing a bulletproof vest and a helmet, got into the Investigative Committee’s car after taking part in the murder probe in the apartment where he is thought to have shot and dismembered his lover, a 24-year graduate... The 63-year-old was hauled out of the Moyka River on Saturday with a backpack containing the severed arms of a woman. Woman's remains and a bloodied hacksaw were reportedly later found in his apartment. St Petersburg’s Oktyabrsky District Court charged Sokolov with murder on Monday and ordered to keep him in pre-trial custody for two months.
