Russia: Sports minister supports Russian athletes’ decision to take part in Winter Olympics

Russian Sports Minister Pavel Kolovkov supported the decision of Russian athletes to take part in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang under the neutral flag at a meeting of the Commission of the Federal Council in Moscow on Tuesday. “It is more important to participate in the Olympics and prove that we are right rather than to reject it and, actually, betray the interests of 12-13-14... Еще-year-old children,” he said, adding “for every child, entry-level athlete, of course, the Olympic Games are a kind of ideal,” he said. “We’ve always sincerely battled against doping and other desires to achieve results illegally,» the minister added. He quoted President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach, who has said that the decision to ban Russia from the Olympics would «be made without any pressure, without taking into consideration WADA decision as well as the pressure from any other countries» and stressed that this proves that such pressure existed.
