Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin announced that the federation has suspended the state accreditation for the All-Russian Athletics Federation (RusAF), speaking in a press conference in Moscow on Friday.
“This decision was taken due to the fact that in recent years the authorities of the All-Russia Athletic Federation were unable to ensure the interests of Russian sportsmen in the fight... Еще against doping,” Matytsin said.
He added that the decision doesn't affect individual athletes, and expressed hope that it «will contribute in the improvement of the dialogue with the international federation.»
He also stated that a working group has been created to prepare for the RusAF elections, scheduled for February 28.
“I hope that each candidate will have an only target, which is to protect the clean athletes' interests,” said the minister.
On Thursday the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) recommended that RusAF leadership step down following the Athletics Integrity Unit Board’s recommendation to suspend RusAF from the membership of World Athletics, the international governing body for the sport of athletics.
