Russia: Seven IS terror suspects caught red-handed in Saint Petersburg

Seven alleged members of the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) were detained in Saint Petersburg on Friday. The group was reportedly planning to carry out several attacks across the city involving suicide bombers. «I was going to carry out a terrorist attack in St. Petersburg,» said one of the detained suspects looking straight at the camera as he admitted to plotting a terror... The apparent IS cell were in possession of a number of explosive substances, weapons and extremist literature. According to the Federal Security Service (FSS), the attacks were planned to take place on December 16. Members of the terror cell reportedly used Telegram Messenger app to contact each other. The city was targeted by terrorists earlier in the year when some sixteen people, including the suicide bomber, were killed in a blast in the Saint Petersburg metro on April 2.
