Russia: SAA advance over Euphrates River in latest push against IS — Zakharova

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) continue to advance against the so-called Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL), with SAA units having «successfully crossed the Euphrates River» in their latest advance, in her weekly press briefing from Yalta, Friday. «The suburbs of this provincial centre have been liberated. The advanced units... Еще successfully crossed the Euphrates River, reaching its eastern shore,» stated Russian diplomat. Speaking about the humanitarian situation in the country, Zakharova underlined that participation of the UN and other international community members «would be a real contribution in support of stabilisation and creation of favourable conditions for a political settlement in Syria». On the latest escalation on the Korean peninsula, Zakharova stressed that Russia regretted repeatedly violations of the UN Security Council resolution by DPRK. «It is necessary to stop and carefully weigh the consequences of our steps, review the policy of mutual pressure and intimidation, as it leads to absolutely opposite result than desired», concluded Zakharova.
