Russia: Russian delegation arrives to IOC for hearing deciding fate of athletes

Members of the Russian delegation arrived at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) headquarters in Lausanne on Tuesday morning. The IOC is set to issue its decision about the participation of Russian athletes in the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Games, after doping allegations in the 2014 Sochi Olympics. The Russian delegation consists of President of the country's national Olympic Committee... Еще Alexander Zhukov, Head of independent anti-doping commission Vitaly Smirnov, and two-time defending world figure skating champion Evgenia Medvedeva. The verdict is expected to be announced during a press conference by the IOC President Thomas Bach at the Beaulieu Convention Centre in Lausanne at 19:30 local time (18:30 GMT). Last Monday, the Kremlin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov denied Russia would boycott the upcoming PyeongChang 2018 Olympics in case the IOC allows only 'clean' athletes to compete as neutrals. Looking into re-tests of samples from the Sochi Games over alleged doping, reported by the former head of Russia's anti-doping agency RUSADA and key whistleblower Grigory Rodchenkov, led to Olympic life bans for 25 Russian athletes so far, while their results have been annulled.
