Russia: Russia's Sarmat ICBM will be on duty in 2020 — Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin noted Russia’s new hypersonic Sarmat heavy ICBM is to enter the service with the Russian military in 2020, while speaking during his annual 'Direct Line' Q&A in Moscow on Thursday. He called the Sarmat Russia's «most powerful guided missile system.” Putin also discussed the new Avangard missile unit, describing it as “an absolute weapon” and emphasised, “I don... Еще’t think any other country will develop a weapon like that in the next few years.” When ready, the Sarmat is set to replace the Soviet-era Voevoda system (NATO reporting name Satan). It is part of a brand new rocket arsenal unveiled by Putin in February. The new RS-26 'Avangard' missile system was also announced by Putin in February during his annual address to the Federal Assembly in Moscow.
