Russia: Rescued baby departs Magnitogorsk for Moscow hospital

Ivan, the 10-month-old baby boy rescued from a collapsed residential building in Magnitogorsk was transferred by plane to Moscow where he will receive specialised treatment, Tuesday. He is expected to be delivered to the Moscow Paediatric Surgery and Traumatology Centre upon arrival. Having previously announced a halt to the rescue operation owing to the risk of the building collapsing further, rescuers leapt into action again after hearing cries from the debris. Magnitogorsk city hospital doctor Viktoria Boyko stated that the child was conscious when he arrived at the facility and was taken to an operating room. The baby remains in a grave condition. Ivan’s mother Olga Fokina survived the building collapse. She is travelling with her baby on his way to Moscow. His father Evgeni Fokin was not at home when the building collapsed. He saw Ivan off at the airport.
