Russia: Remains of 348 Soviet-era victims reinterred at Katyn Memorial

The recently discovered remains of 348 victims of the Katyn massacre were reinterred at the Katyn Memorial Complex, in Smolensk region, Monday. The ceremony took place on the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repression, celebrated in Russia on October 30. Director of the Contemporary History of Russia, Irina Velikanova, spoke of «historical justice» being re-established, during the... Еще ceremony. The Katyn Memorial Complex is located some 20 kilometres (12,42 miles) away from Smolensk and consists of both Polish and Russian sectors. The Katyn massacre was a series of mass executions carried out by Soviet secret police organisation the People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs (NKVD) in 1940.
