Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping officially unveiled a pair of giant pandas named Ru Yi and Ding Ding at the Moscow Zoo on Wednesday.
Earlier Putin thanked Xi for presenting the pandas to Russia.
“We know that in China this is not a usual practice, it is a sign of great respect and trust towards Russia and our experts. When we talk about pandas, it always... Еще brings a smile to our faces,” the Russian leader said at a joint press conference with Xi.
China handed over the young pandas to Russia during Putin’s April visit to Beijing. The two pandas are to spend the next 15 years in Moscow as a part scientific programme directed at studying the ways of preserving the animals and the possibility of returning them into the wild.
