Russia: ‘Pressure to accept non-existent guilt’ — Maria Butina’s father on her solitary confinement

Valeriy Butin, father of alleged Russian foreign agent Maria Butina, claimed that his daughter is detained in solitary confinement as a «pressure on her in aiming at accepting non-existent guilt,» during an interview to RT from Barnaul on Thursday. He noted that «an official version» of the reasoning behind her solitary confinement was that Butina «gave a phone number of her lawyer to another... Еще detainee.» «There is an appeal to US Department of State, notifications are regularly sent there as well as appeals to marshals, to prison management for the Russian citizen [Maria Butina] who does not have guilt to be kept in decent conditions and torture methods will not be used against her,» Butin remarked. The 29-year-old Russian graduate student entered the US in August 2016 on a student visa. She was arrested on July 15 for conspiring against the US government and failing to register as a foreign agent. Her lawyer denies all charges against her.
