Head of the Russian Orthodox Church Patriarch Kirill addressed the nation and led the Easter service at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow on Saturday. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev also attended the service. Patriarch Kirill spoke on the significance of Easter, calling it «the greatest event in human history» because on Easter Sunday, «the Lord... Еще overcame evil.» «As we know, evil exists in the world, but it is not capable of dominating the whole human race. By the power of God's grace people are able to resist evil», he continued. While Catholic and Protestant churches marked Easter last Sunday, Orthodox churches follow the Julian calendar and therefore are celebrating it this coming Sunday.
