Kirill Vyshinsky, editor-in-chief of the agency RIA Novosti Ukraine, was detained by the Security Service of Ukraine in Kiev on Monday. Hug stressed that journalists ‘can go about their job’ and ‘report independently,’ adding that the case in question demands investigation by ‘the competent authority and a special monitoring mission.’ When asked whether the OSCE representatives are allowed to visit Vyshinsky in prison, Hug said that a visit request has not been filed yet but the special monitoring mission ‘would consider such request.’
