Head of the Main Operational Department of the Russian General Staff Sergei Rudskoi stated that the liberation from the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) of the central part of Syria is «nearing completion,» at a press conference in Moscow, Monday.

The Russian military official went on to note that Syrian government forces, backed by the Russian Air Force, «rapidly develop the offensive into Deir ez-Zor from three directions» and that the government troops began to use «new methods of fighting against terrorist groups.»
Rudskoi went on to say that «the intensity of the use of the Russian aircraft [has] increased to 60-70 sorties per day» in Deir ez-Zor, which he said «is the last stronghold of the terrorists on Syrian territory.»
The head of the Main Operational Department of the Russian General Staff also noted that the established de-escalation zones in the south of Syria, in the north of Homs Province and in Eastern Ghouta «operate successfully.»
