According to the Russian Defence Ministry, the blast occurred when lightning struck the ammunition storage whose lightning protection was damaged. This «resulted in the ammunition igniting in the warehouse and the subsequent explosion,» the ministry says.
Residents of the village of Kamenka located near the ammunition depot are being evacuated to a safe area. Local authorities declared a state of emergency in the Achinsk region.
The ammunition facility first exploded on August 5, killing one person and leaving 13 more injured, according to Russia's Investigative Committee. Nearly 4,000 people were evacuated from settlements within a 20 km (12.40 mile) radius of the facility.
