Russia: Navalny sentenced to 30 days in jail for staging unsanctioned rally

Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny was sentenced to 30 days in jail for helping stage unauthorised protests on May 5. Moscow’s Tverskoy Court issued the verdict on Tuesday. The anti-Putin protests were held ahead of the Russian leader's inauguration as president for a fourth term. Navalny himself was detained by police shortly after his arrival at a protest in Moscow.
