Russia: Navalny's probation period prolonged by 12 months

Moscow's Simonovsky district court prolonged Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny's probation period by 12 months, thus ending it on December 30, 2020, Friday. In 2014, Navalny and his brother Oleg were prosecuted for embezzling funds from the Russian subsidiary of the French cosmetics company Yves Rocher. Following a retrial of the case, the Russian opposition activist was given a five... Еще-year suspended sentence along with one and a half years' probation. When speaking to the press following the hearing, Navalny expressed his willingness to continue his presidential campaign. He went on to say that he expected a decision by the European Court of Human Rights, which he said «will be to my advantage, because the case was fabricated.» This year, Navalny has twice been convicted on administrative charges. In June, Navalny was sentenced to 30 days of administrative arrest for repeatedly violating the law on staging rallies and resisting arrest, with the Moscow city court later reducing the sentence from 30 to 25 days. In March, the Tverskoy Court of Moscow sentenced Navalny to 15 days in prison and a 20,000 rouble fine for his role in unsanctioned anti-corruption protests.
