Deputies of the lower house of the Russian Parliament adopted amendments to a law 'On Mass Media' which could require mass media outlets funded from abroad to register as 'foreign agents' when operating in Russia, during a session in Moscow on Wednesday. According to the new bill, foreign media which operate and receive financing from outside of Russia can be recognised as 'foreign agents' at... Еще the discretion of the Ministry of Justice. Member of the 7th State Duma of the Russian Federation Pyotr Tolstoy underlined that the Duma had been «forced to take these measures.» He stated that Russian media even with partial funding from abroad would not be influenced by the bill. Tolstoy said that the Russian Ministry of Justice would consider every foreign-funded media outlet independently. After the vote, Chairman of Russia's State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin announced that the law had been adopted unanimously. Russian MPs began to draft the measures after the US Department of Justice ordered RT America to register as a foreign agent before November 13.
