Mourners laid flowers outside the Spanish embassy in Moscow, early on Friday morning, after at least 13 people were killed and scores injured when a van mowed down pedestrians in the popular Barcelona area of Las Ramblas on Thursday.
A white Fiat van was spotted on Thursday afternoon running off the road and into pedestrians outside the Placa de Catalunya metro station in Barcelona, leaving... Еще several dead and injuring a further 100 people.
The attack was followed by a similar incident in nearby Cambrils, when five suspected attackers were killed by police gunmen in the coastal town early on Friday morning after reportedly driving an Audi A3 into a group of pedestrians, only hours after a similar attack rocked Barcelona.
The suspected assailants are alleged to have been wearing explosive belts. Seven people were injured in the Cambrils ramming.
The attacks have been claimed by the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS, ISIL).
Police are now linking the two incidents with an explosion that took place early on Thursday morning in the town of Alcanar Platja. It was initially believed to be a gas cylinder explosion, but is now reportedly connected to the assemblage of a bomb by the militant group that carried out Thursday’s and Friday’s attacks.
