Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that a new Canadian bill that will sanction Russian officials has «mostly has been copied from the notorious American Magnitsky bill.» She made the comments during her weekly briefing at the Russian Foreign Ministry in Moscow, Wednesday.
She went on to say that «the anti-Russian acts of the Canadian government will not be left without... Еще an adequate reaction.»
Zakharova pointed out that «in the case of increased pressure» Russia will have to respond symmetrically and «expand the number of Canadian officials who remain persona non grata in Russia.»
The Canadian parliament introduced the bill in May 2016, and it is expected to be approved later on Wednesday. The act will allow the government to impose sanctions on foreigners from any country, not just Russia.
