Russia: Moscow theatre art director Serebrennikov detained in $1.2m fraud investigation

The art director of the Gogol Theatre in Moscow, Kirill Serebrennikov, was detained as part of an on-going fraud investigation whereby he is alleged to have stolen 68 million roubles ($1.15m, €977,000), Svetlana Petrenko, an official representative of the Investigative Committee of Russia, from Moscow, Tuesday. He is suspected of the theft of at least 68 million roubles allocated between 2011-2014 for the project 'Platform',» said Petrenko. «The investigation intends to charge him with committing above mentioned crime, and to choose a measure of restraint.»
