Russia: Moscow's position in Central Asia strengthening — Shoigu

Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu reported that Russia is strengthening its position in Central Asia due to the instability caused by the armed conflict in Afghanistan, at a scheduled meeting in Moscow, Friday. Shoigu stated, «The situation in Central Asia remains unstable. The armed conflict in Afghanistan continues between government forces, the Taliban and IS militants.» He then added... Еще, «The military district's command is paying special attention to the implementation of joint practical measures with the armed forces of the Central Asian countries,» which, in turn, is contributing to Russia's strengthening position in the region. Shoigu noted that the Eastern Military District intend to «build up the combat strength of the troops, improve the quality of their training» adding that they will also continue to improve the organisational staff structure and re-equip the military units stating, «by the end of the year, the troops will receive over 1100 units of new and modernised equipment.»
