Russia: Moscow 'regrets' US-North Korea summit cancellation

Russian President Vladimir stated that Moscow 'regrets' the cancellation of the planned June 12 summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, at a joint press conference with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron in St. Petersburg on Thursday. The Russian President met with Macron on the sidelines of the three-day-long St. Petersburg International Economic Forum... Еще (SPIEF). Commenting on Trump's decision to cancel the US-North Korea summit, Putin said that Moscow 'took this news with regret because we had very much counted on it being a significant step in sorting out the situation on the Korean Peninsula.' Putin stressed that Kim 'did everything that he had promised, even blew up the tunnels and shafts of the country's nuclear testing site, after which, we heard about cancellation of the summit by the US.' He went on to say that Moscow hopes that 'the dialogue will be renewed, and that the meeting takes place.' Earlier in the day, Trump cancelled his planned US-North Korea summit in a letter addressed to Kim, citing 'tremendous anger and open hostility' displayed in Pyongyang's most recent statements.
