Russia: 'Less interferences, more benefits' — Russian football referee explains VAR system in run up to WC

«We have some kind of slogan — the less interference, more benefits from the system,» said the Russian football referee Sergei Karasev on the VAR (Video assistant referee) system as he was included in the list of referees to officiate at matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Moscow, Monday. The referee went on to say that the VAR system focused on avoiding of 'roughness' or unfairness in football... The selection began four years ago, we have come a long way,» Karasev explained. According to Karasev, he and his co-workers are happy about the World Cup taking place in their home country. «There were no world championships in Russia. It's unknown if we will have another in our lifetime. That is why we're glad to stay here, and be close to our families,» he added. The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicks off with the opening match in the Russian capital of Moscow and will be held in 11 Russian cities from June 14 to July 15.
