Russia: Lavrov refutes refusal to close Erbil consulate as «explicit disinformation»

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has branded reports of refusing to close its diplomatic mission in Erbil as «explicit disinformation» during a joint news conference in Moscow on Monday with his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim al-Jaafari. Lavrov attacked a Euronews report claiming Russia rejected the demands of Baghdad to close its diplomatic missions in Erbil, which he condemned as supposedly... Еще from the «most objective and unbiased television channel in Europe». The two earlier held bilateral talks on a number of key issues including the so-called Islamic State, (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) and questions of US strategy in Syria. Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs Ibrahim al-Jaafari reiterated Iraq's stance «to return Syria to the League of Arab States» and that future political matters «should be solved by the Syrians themselves.” Lavrov also demanded answers from Washington over its strategy in Syria. He said: «When we hear about the new line [strategy] of the United States, which involves the creation of some local councils on the territories of the sovereign Syrian Arab Republic, of course, it raises questions. We are sending these questions to Washington, we expect that we will get an honest and understandable answer.»
