The Vatican's Secretary of State Pietro Parolin held bilateral talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Tuesday, where the pair discussed international issues, including the ongoing political unrest in Ukraine and Venezuela.
Lavrov commended the Vatican's role in the Ukrainian crisis. «Not so long ago, the Vatican sent a significant amount of humanitarian aid to Ukraine... Еще, including Donetsk and Lugansk,» he said, adding «we appreciate the Vatican's stance on the inadmissibility of using a religious factor in the [settlement of the] Ukrainian crisis in a bid to achieve political goals.»
«Because Russia and Venezuela have close relations, I think that Russia can facilitate negotiations,» said Parolin of the Venezuelan crisis, adding «it is necessary to work with opposing parties at the governmental level and together try to find a common way to solve the problems that Venezuela is experiencing now.»
