Russia: Just be the Red Machine — Fasel on Russian ice hockey Olympic ban

President of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Rene Fasel commented on the IOC decision to ban the Russian hockey team from bringing the flag and anthem to the upcoming Olympics in Pyeongchang, during an interview in Moscow on Saturday. Commenting on the IOC's flag and anthem ban, Fasel said «you do not need a jersey to be the Red Machine, just be the Red Machine.» He went on to... Еще say it was «a tough decision» to ban Russian athletes from participating in the Olympics. He said he was not happy with it, but that «the executive board made a decision and we have to follow-up.» Even without a flag or logo, Fasel said, «the Russian team is the Russian hockey team and the fans will identify them as such.» Fasel also said there would be a decision to be made — probably early next week — regarding the participation in the 2018 Olympics of the Russian female hockey team. The Russian ice hockey team is called 'the Red Machine' by fans. The nickname was originally given to the USSR's national ice hockey team. Mandatory Credit: RT LOGO
