Russia: Investigative Committee launches probe into torture in Yaroslavl prison *GRAPHIC*

Russia’s Investigative Committee opened an investigation on Friday after human rights organisation Public Verdict Foundation released a video of a prisoner being tortured by guards at a Yaroslavl prison. The prisoner, who is thought to be Evgenii Makarov, is seen lying on a table. The footage shows alleged prison guards beating the man with batons and fists, as well as choking him until he... Еще loses consciousness. The abuse reportedly took place on June 29, 2017 and was captured by a portable video recorder, which Federal Penal Enforcement Service employees are required to carry by law. The Federal Penitentiary Service has sent a special commission to the Yaroslavl prison to contact the investigation and conduct checks on the ground. The Public Verdict Foundation was established in February 2004 as a non-profit organisation that provides legal assistance to citizens affected by the illegal actions of law enforcement agencies.
