Russian TV personality Ksenia Sobchak announced her decision to run in the 2018 presidential elections in order to bring back the option to reject all candidates with the 'none of the above' box, in Moscow on Wednesday.
Sobchak said that she had revealed her presidential ambitions to Russian leader Vladimir Putin while making a documentary on her late father Anatolii Sobchak, former Saint... Еще Petersburg Mayor and Putin's mentor.
She noted that her family «has always been close to Vladimir Vladimirovich [Putin] since St. Petersburg times, so I thought it would be the right thing to tell him about my decision.» She went on to say that she «did not have the feeling that he [Putin] liked it» and that the Russian president said that «every person has the right to make decisions and must bear responsibility for them.»
The Russian journalist did not reject the possibility of withdrawing her candidacy from the presidential race if Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny «manages to press on the authorities and get the registration, then I am ready to discuss with him possible case scenarios, up to withdrawal of my candidacy.»
The famous Russian socialite also noted that «you do not have to like Ksenia Sobchak» or «share my personal values: however, she expressed hope that those «who do not agree with what is happening in the country today» would support her.
