Russia: Footballers involved in Moscow cafe incident should be punished if guilty — Sport Minister

Russian Minister of Sport Pavel Kolobkov spoke about an attack in a Moscow cafe allegedly involving two Russian footballers during an interview in Ulyanovsk on Tuesday. “If our sportsmen, our leading sportsmen, really did take part in that, then, I think, they should be strictly punished by both law enforcement, once the investigation is done, and sport organizations including clubs and the... Еще Russian football union,” he said. “It is not important who committed this act, whether it was a sportsperson or an ordinary person. They must be held accountable like anyone else,” he added. Aleksandr Kokorin and Pavel Mamaev, who play for Zenit and FC Krasnodar, respectively, are facing criminal charges over an alleged attack on Trade Ministry official Denis Pak, after he reportedly complained about the behaviour of the two footballers, and Director of the NAMI State Scientific Centre Sergei Gaisin. Footage of the two allegedly carrying out the assault emerged on Monday. Mamaev and Kokorin have also reportedly been accused of being involved in an attack on a Moscow driver before the cafe altercation.
