Russia: Early voting for presidential election begins in remote Yamal Peninsula

SOT, reporter (Russian): «And now do you know who the candidate is?» SOT, resident (Russian): «I always confuse it, now it is Putin.» Citizens of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug in northwest Siberia became the first Russians to cast their ballots in the presidential election on Sunday, when election officials arrived by helicopter to the remote village of Sabetta. A representative from... Еще the central voting committee said that the «early voting should cover 35,000 people, including the population of Tundra,» adding that the officials are going to cover the remote areas until March 17. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the remoteness of the location, a local resident commented during the voting process: «I do not know, I do not understand who is there. It makes no difference to me, Putin or Medvedev, or someone else.» The Russian presidential election is scheduled for March 18.
