We're not trying to provoke or push anyone to do anything. We don't intervene in this process,» stated Putin, adding «[Our statements] are aimed at searching for a solution, so the sides even in the most complex and conflicted situations could find a mutually acceptable decision.» When asked by a journalist about the political situation regarding the United States, Putin said that «certain forces are using Russian-American relations to address internal political issues.» However he added that there are mutual interests, including the fight against cyber-crime and terrorism and for the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. These will, in the end, prevail and «ultimately change the character of Russian-American relationship for the better,» the Russian leader said. Speaking of US President Donald Trump, Putin said he does not consider Trump a hostage of the American political system. «I believe that a personality like Trump, with his character will never be hostage to anyone,» he stated. So there’s nothing to it. Do you think we’re only going to drive carts or tanks? No, we don’t drive carts anymore.»
