Russia: Court rejects director Serebrennikov’s appeal to go to work

Moscow City Court rejected Russian theatre director Kirill Serebrennikov's appeal to go to work in Moscow on Monday; therefore keeping the director under house arrest until July 19. «[We] came out with a statement that this restriction is no longer necessary, asked to let Serebrennikov visit the [Gogol Centre] theatre for business and to use the Internet. Unfortunately, we were rejected, but we... Еще will keep addressing our requests to the investigators,» lawyer Dmitri Kharitonov said. The famed art theatre director of Russia's Gogol Centre is charged with embezzling 68 million roubles (around $1,182,547; €996,108) of state funds allocated for the Platform project between 2011-2014.
