The Russian national team coach Stanislav Cherchesov said that the prime goal of the World Cup was not just to play well but to ‘give more than just football’ during an interview with Danish goalkeeping legend Peter Schmeichel in Moscow on Tuesday. At the same time Cherchesov expressed some regrets over the World Cup. “From a moral perspective we have won, from sporting perspective we have not... Еще,” he said and added that the team might have had a chance to play in semi-final against England. The coach explained that after victory over Spain, he was absorbed in his thoughts about the next game which is why he looked so emotionless. He also joked with Schmeichel, saying that his son, also a Danish goalkeeper, played better than he had. The Russian team was defeated by Croatia on penalties in Sochi on 7th July.
