Russia: 'Check facts' when commenting on alleged E. Ghouta truce violations, Lavrov advises

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called for everyone to «thoroughly check the facts» when commenting on recent US comments alleging that the Syrian government has violated the truce in Eastern Ghouta, during a press conference with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian in Moscow on Tuesday. «[White House Press Secretary] Sarah Sanders said in basically the same way as you [refers to a... Еще journalist] asked your question, that the truce doesn't work as the Syrian government is shelling Eastern Ghouta,» said Lavrov. «But the official representative of the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric said that the truce is unfortunately being violated because opposition from Eastern Ghouta are shelling Damascus and the Syrian government retaliates with air strikes,» Lavrov stressed. Russia's top diplomat also said that he wants those who «have influence on the opposition» to take responsibility and make the opposition «come to terms with following the demands of the UNSC.» French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian also commented on the issue, saying that the «application of five initial hours of truce [in Eastern Ghouta] has been a real step forward, that should be credited to the Russian initiative.» He also added that respect for this truce should help to avoid a «humanitarian tragedy.»
