President of the Libyan House of Representative, Aguila Saleh, said that the Cairo Declaration is the only solution for the crisis in Libya, as he was speaking in an interview with RT Arabic, on Saturday.
Saleh also said head of the Government of National Accord (GNA) Fayez al-Sarraj “was not part of the dialogue. He is a prime minister who has been brought from abroad; all he wants is to keep his post. The only party involved in the dialogue — if any — is the State Council.”
Regarding the position of the Libyan Parliament on Russia’s efforts to solve the Libyan crisis, Saleh stated that they “depend on Russia’s crucial role as an active mediator to solve the Libyan crisis.”
Saleh also said that the US’ role in Libya was not “clear.” “We have never officially contacted the Americans except a call by the ambassador after the Cairo Declaration,” he added.
The President of the Libyan House of Representative arrived in Moscow on Thursday to meet Russian officials and discuss several issues, most importantly the ceasefire initiative and resume the political process and the Cairo initiative, as well as the deliverables of Berlin conference.
The Cairo Initiative was announced by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi in early June, following talks with Saleh and head and head of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Khalifa Haftar. The initiative highlighted conditions of a political settlement in Libya and stipulated that a ceasefire be declared on 8 June.
