An all-night vigil was held in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow on Friday, in celebration of the Orthodox baptism of Kievan Rus. The religious ceremony was held on the eve of the baptism’s 1030th anniversary. Although the Christianisation of Kievan Rus' occurred in several stages, the definitive date of the Christianisation of Kiev dates back to the baptism of Vladimir the Great... Еще in 988. St. Vladimir was baptised at Chersonesos before he went on to baptise his family and residents in Kiev. The Kievan Rus' were a loose federation of eastern European Slavic tribes, which are viewed as the ancestors of today's people of Belarus, Ukraine and Russia.
