Romania: Protest marks one month since violent rally crackdown in Bucharest

Hundreds of protesters gathered at Victory Square in Bucharest on Monday, to commemorate a month since the violent government crackdown against the August 10 protests. Protesters with signs reading 'PSD Red Plaque' and 'You won’t get away' chanted against the ruling Social Democrat Party (PSD) and demanded early elections. Protesters also held a moment of silence in honour of Ilie Gasea, a... Еще 68-year-old who died following the August 10 protest, with many claiming that he died due to inhaled gas. Anti-corruption protests held in the Romanian capital on August 10 turned violent when police deployed tear gas and water cannons to disperse the masses. Romanian President Klaus Iohannis later condemned police action in a Facebook statement, saying: «I firmly condemn riot police's brutal intervention, strongly disproportionate to the actions of the majority of people.»
