Romania: Hundreds injured in anti-govt. protest in Bucharest

Hundreds of protesters were injured in clashes with riot police in Bucharest on Friday, during a large-scale protest against the ruling Social Democrat (PSD) government, reportedly organised by homecoming members of the Romanian diaspora. Romanian President Klaus Iohannis later condemned police action in a Facebook statement, saying: «I condemn the brutal intervention of the Gendarmerie Force, strongly disproportionate in comparison to the behaviour of the majority of protesters from Victoriei Square.»
