Revellers celebrate 'Descent of the Angel' festival on Easter Sunday

Hundreds gathered around the church of Santa Maria in the Spanish town of Aranda de Duero, to celebrate Easter Sunday with a Catholic tradition dating back to the 15th century called the 'Descent of the Angel.' Scores of locals and tourists followed the religious procession towards the church of Santa Maria where the ceremony took place. Footage shows a 'balloon' that carries the 'Angel... Еще' inside as it slid down the rope and hung above the statue of Virgin Mary, which was covered in a black cloth to signify mourning. The balloon then popped open and the 'Angel' released two pigeons and flew down to remove the black cloth from the Virgin Mary Statue, signifying the end of mourning due to the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
