Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed Russia «does not recognise the nuclear status of North Korea» stressing that it is «impossible» to resolve the escalating tensions in the region through sanctions. He was speaking at a joint press conference with his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-in in Vladivostok, Wednesday.
«We should not be emotional and do not corner North Korea. It is time to... Еще be cold-head and avoid situation, which can lead to the problem's escalation,» Putin said.
The Russian leader went on to add that «we won't be able to change the situation without diplomatic tools, without talks. I would say it would be very hard, actually impossible.»
The press conference came on the sidelines of the third Eastern Economic Forum taking place in the city on September 6-7.
On top of the leader’ agenda were issues the North Korea nuclear program as well as trade and bilateral relations.
Twenty-four nations have confirmed their participation in the event. The 2016 forum brought together 3,500 participants, and included the signing of 111 investment projects.
